Slow shutter speed is used to capture the blur or motion of a object. These photos are good examples of the effects that a slow shutter speed gives.

In some of these landscape photos it shows the movement of a sparkler in the back garden over a 20 second period. In the others car lights on a main road are shown over the same period of time at night in a semi-rural setting.

The elements in the sparkler photos are central to the frame and partially fills it. The car lights show movement across the frame giving the images of a leading lines composition. Each of the photographs were taken with a mid range zoom to enable all of the relevant parts to be captured. The shapes that been produced are to emphasize the light source.

There was no flash used in these photograph. The light emitting from the sparkler is the only light present in the images and in the car photos there are various street lamps along the side of the road but the main source of light comes from the cars to produce the streams of lights captured. The colours produced produced also come directly from the light source.

This project was to take photos with a slow shutter speed. You can tell this by the clear and defined lines the lights produce over a set period of time.

In these photos I don’t think it creates a mood.
